Now sponsor for Sixth Degree in F1 in Schools worldwide competition

We’re pleased to announce we are now an official sponsor for Sixth Degree, an outstanding team of students entering the 2015-16 season of F1 in Schools worldwide competition.

The team consists of James, Amelia, Josh, Anna, Ed and Olivia who are all enthusiastic to take part in the challenge. The F1 in schools competition is aimed at changing perceptions of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), engaging millions of students from ages 9 to 19 across the Globe in a fun and hands-on STEM initiative. The challenge is to design and build a 1:20 scale model of a Formula one car that will race down a 20 metre racetrack, revealing which team has designed and manufactured the fastest car.

The challenge is not just about the race, the teams must, of course, design and develop the car using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and test for aerodynamic efficiency, before manufacturing their cars using Computerised Numerical Control (CNC) machinery and preparing for races.

Sixth Degree proved their skills with their success at the recent regional event in Bromborough. Competing against other schools from the North West region, they won second place out of total 14 teams, gaining a ticket to Silverstone where the national finals will be held on the 20th and 21st April 2016.

We at Master Abrasives are keen to support STEM students and projects, especially in the field of engineering. Our abrasives and tool services offering provides the complete solution for industry, including helping to support and train engineers of the future.
