Andy Carr has recently been appointed as Master Abrasives Business Development Manager and will be taking responsibility for accounts in the northern region and Scotland along with business development projects country wide. He’s returning to the company again after 30 years.
Andy will be using the market and business experience he’s acquired in the past few decades to bring Master Abrasives portfolio of abrasives, power tools and machinery solutions to potential customers. An important part of his role will be the development of business UK wide, working alongside Andy Wright and his sales team, on targeting strategic business development projects.
Paul Batson, Managing Director, explained: “Andy started his sales career with us in the 90’s, having finished his training as an engineering apprentice. Some of our long-serving staff and I remember Andy from that time and I’m delighted to welcome him back to our team in a more strategic role as Business Development Manager, not forgetting his drive to develop sales at existing customers ”
Andy Carr added “I am really looking forward to returning to the Master team and bringing the skills and experience I have gained over the years, both in allied industries - for example, with the power tool companies I worked for - but more importantly the knowledge I gained from developing and securing large contracts in the nuclear, defence and healthcare sectors. I am truly fired up to be back at the company.”

Following their appointment as Supfina’s UK representatives in 2023, Master Abrasives team has been working to meet its customer’s high-precision needs to improve efficiency and surface finish. In one case, a global bearing manufacturing group has installed the superfinishing attachment 110 for the finishing of bearings.
Explaining the application benefits for this machine, Ian Meredith, Master Abrasives’ Applications Engineering Manager explained: “We are seeing how Supfina’s decades of tool building experience, combined with our application process knowledge, can meet high-precision needs for our customers and help them to improve profitability, improve part finish and reduce process time.”
The pneumatic superfinishing attachment 110 is suitable for mounting on small and medium sized carrier machines for finishing ground and turned surfaces. In addition to cylindrical components, the attachment can also be used on flat, lightly convex or lightly concave surfaces and bores.
Supfina’s superfinishing attachments were displayed at MACH exhibition earlier this year with Supfina’s expert, Johannes Weiss, on-hand for visitors to discuss requirements with. The German manufacturer provides a broad range of solutions, whether you’re flat finishing, fine grinding, double disk grinding, superfinishing or looking for high-tech automated solutions.

Master Abrasives, a global provider of manufacturing consumables and capital equipment for industry, are pleased to announce they will be increasing their sponsorship of Daventry Town Football Club (DTFC), becoming the first team sponsors from the start of the coming season.
Paul Batson, Managing Director of Master Abrasives, commented: “We’re delighted to increase our sponsorship of the local club this year, giving back to the local community after over 55 years of trading in Daventry. The club is community run and does so much for families, supporting young people in sport and arranging a local food bank. Together, we’ll continue to develop a strong spirit of community during an exciting time for football.”
Master Abrasives is adding a new pitch-side board to the grounds in Daventry alongside its existing ones. The company strives to support events run by the club, including its recent Sponsors event and Youth Teams Presentation Day.

MACH 2024
In April, we exhibited at MACH Exhibition 2024 to showcase our latest technology with roaring success! At this year’s industry event for machine tools, we displayed two grinding machines – the Iron surface grinder by Rosa and compact cylindrical grinder ECO 200 by Micromatic – and had more partner representatives than ever before joining us from Germany, Italy and India to support our machinery and equipment solutions.
Just a month after the exhibition, we made our first post-show machine sale and have ongoing enquiries for more machine tools in our range.
GrindingHub 2024
May brought our first time exhibiting surface solutions at GrindingHub Exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany. At the show, Slawomir Klisiewicz, Master Abrasives Polska's National Sales Manager, came to represent his team and look out for future distributors of the Master brand.
Our complete range of Master abrasive solutions were on display, including grinding wheels, stones and dressing tools with the newest CBN and Diamond range. Paul Batson, Managing Director, was interviewed by the organisers for his take on the show on day 3 - which you can watch over on their YouTube channel.

Master Abrasives UK will be exhibiting the full range of Master® products at the 2024 Grinding Hub exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany alongside its sister company, Master Abrasives Polska.
Representatives from both companies will be available on stand B01 in Hall 10 from 14-17th May to discuss the complete range of abrasives from the Master brand and how these products can improve productivity in various applications. Products being exhibited include high-quality grinding wheels and a complete range of complementary dressings products.
Since last exhibiting at a European engineering show, Master have introduced a complete range of super abrasive products which includes the precision internal range of Master vitrified CBN wheels. Products include high performance wheels mounted on threaded or carbide shanks to suit the grinding of high precision components or those difficult to grind materials down to 1mm bore sizes. The UK-owned company has been winning new business globally with this range of products and can fully support manufacturers with their long-established larger range of vitrified CBN and diamond wheels.
The range of Master burrs includes their newest release, the HD cut, ideal for working on aluminium and non-ferrous materials. They give excellent stock removal, are good for blending cast lines and have a low-vibration, smooth running performance. This range will be stocked in a range of suitable sizes and will be available to view on the stand at the Grinding Hub.
Master Abrasives have been experts in grinding solutions for many years and their display of grinding wheel options at the Grinding Hub will be tailored to a variety of industries including aerospace, oil and gas and automotive. They offer a full range of grades in vitrified and resin bonds and specially designed products such as SAWPRO grinding wheels for cool cutting action when sharpening circular saws.
Paul Batson, Managing Director of Master Abrasives group of companies, commented: “We visited the exhibition in 2022 and decided then that this would be part of our promotional and communications strategy for 2024. Now with a sister company located in Bielsko-Biala Poland, Master Abrasives Polska is ideally located to serve both the Polish and European markets for the Master group. Paul Batson added, “Slawomir Klisiewicz is leading the new company in Poland as National Sales Manager. He has many years of experience in the abrasives industry and will be available to discuss customer requirements at the Grinding Hub. The Polish company has just been appointed an official 3M precision product distributor for Poland which mirrors the UK company and we are all very excited about this opportunity – 3M’s high technology grinding products sit very comfortably with our own Master range of products – ensuring we continue to offer all our customers a complete solution for industry.”

John has a strong technical background in power tools and their applications from his previous role at Dynabrade, as well as market experience from prior sales roles at industrial distributors.
With a strong knowledge of both our key end-users and distributors across the Midlands and South, we are confident he will be a great asset to the team!
Midlands-based Master Abrasives has recently been appointed as the ROSA Ermando S.p.A authorised agent in the UK and Ireland, a leading worldwide supplier of grinding machines based in Italy.
For this brand addition to Master’s range, discussions have been handled slightly differently and it has been mutually agreed with ROSA’s current distributor that Master Abrasives will work closely with them in a gradual handover.
For several years, ROSA has been represented in the UK by NL Machine Tool Consulting Limited whose Managing Director, Mr Norman Loughton, has served them very well and has a long history in the UK machine tool industry. As Norman is now considering slowing down as he heads towards retirement, it was fortuitus that Master Abrasives and ROSA had started discussing future representation in the UK.
Following a three-way discussion, it was mutually agreed that Master would represent ROSA from the 1st Jan 2024, working closely with Norman in a slow and seamless hand over.
Paul Batson, Master Abrasives’ Managing Director, stated: “Whilst we are very honoured to have reached an agreement to represent ROSA and work with them on potential new business, we also want to show our respect for the work that Norman has put in to the brand and customer base over recent years. For this reason, it was critical that Norman was on board and we’re glad he was happy to work with us on the smooth transmission from NL Machines Tools’ distributorship to Master Abrasives.”

ROSA, founded in 1964 by Eng. Ermando Rosa, designs and builds horizontal-spindle grinding machines for plane surfaces and profiles, grinding machines with universal head for slideways and profiles and creep-feed grinding machines. Mr ROSA bought the rival FAVRETTO Machines Tool company in recent years so they can also offer the range of FAVRETTO machines, sitting well beside the ROSA range for a very comprehensive machine portfolio.

The main industrial sectors where ROSA surface grinders are to be found are mould and dies manufacturers, tool makers, the machine tool industry, aerospace industry guideways and linear guiding systems and circular knives and straight knives for steel, aluminium and paper industry, all of which will be a target markets for the Master team and potentially others that are waiting to be developed. MACH 2024 will be an excellent opportunity for Master Abrasives to focus on its machine tool offering to the UK industrial marketplace. The stand 430 in Hall 6 will showcase the company’s offering.
Master Abrasives’ roots lay in the application and sale of consumable abrasive tools used for metal removal and polishing, however, over the past few years they have developed a strategy to offer even more of a “complete solution for industry” by building a solid grinding and finishing machine tool offering. This portfolio includes grinding wheels, dressing systems, grinding machines, superfinishing units, coolant nozzles, measuring equipment and introduces the latest additions to the family: the range of surface grinding machines from Rosa Ermando machine tools, based in Italy.
The stand will feature the CNC grinder PLUTO-18 - specially designed by Micromatic Grinding Technologies to focus on compactness, high-performance and providing an economical grinding solution. It is best suited to produce highly accurate small components and can perform both plunge and traverse grinding operations. Visitors will see the machine cycle and be able to ask experts on the stand about its capabilities and other application queries.
A Rosa surface grinder will be displayed by Master Abrasives as their new agent in the UK and Ireland; the team will be introducing a representative from the Italian manufacturer to visitors. Additional representatives from Micromatic and Supfina will be available to discuss application requirements - so Master is encouraging any visitors with general or specific application enquiries to make an appointment and bring along their components or problems for experts to assess and offer a potential solution.
Another part of the display will be Supfina’s tape finishing attachment, just one example of the many high-quality products the German manufacturer offers. Johannes Weiss from Supfina is travelling to support the team for part of the MACH week and can discuss further the potential for any of Supfina’s broad product range, whether you’re flat finishing, fine grinding, double disk grinding, superfinishing or looking for high-tech automated solutions.
To complement the comprehensive machine tool portfolio, Master is exhibiting its established range of high precision abrasive grinding wheels, available in conventional, ceramic and Superabrasives. Visitors will find answers to all application requirements, from high stock removal to consistent part quality. Superfinishing stones, wheels and tapes (also known as micro films) are part of their abrasive offering, ensuring complete and cost effective solutions for their customers.
